It’s surprised us how many people still don’t know how AFL Fantasy Points are calculated so we decided to help!
Almost all mediums that collate and share AFL statistics these days have a column for AFL Fantasy Points.
See below for the table on how the points are actually calculated for each player.
Stat Description | Points Awarded |
Kick | 3 Points |
Handball | 2 Points |
Mark | 3 Points |
Tackle | 4 Points |
Free Kick For | 1 Point |
Free Kick Against | -3 Points |
Hitout | 1 Point |
Goal | 6 Points |
Behind | 1 Point |
The biggest thing that has always stood out to us is a number of points a player receives for a tackle.
Especially given the increase in average tackles per game over the past decade.
From a DFS or regular fantasy perspective identifying games that will be tight and congested and will likely have lots of tackles can be the secret to success.
Especially if you’re able to select players that will likely be laying all of those tackles!
Free kicks aren’t worth much but free against can be costly!
There is still nothing sweeter than a full forwards 12 point fantasy play although it happens less and less these days.
Three points for the mark, three points for the kick and six points for the goal. Bang!
