Players to consider
Forward
Eddie Betts (Adelaide) $6,200
Perhaps this is a bit of a sneaky pick. Small forwards can always have absolutely shocking games and he is relatively pricey. He has however basically hit 100 in his first two games and the key point is that Richmond don’t really have a matchup for him. Dylan Grimes would have drawn the Betts assignment but he injured his hamstring last week and the Tigers are in a bit of a pickle. Vlaustin can match him in the air but Betts speed will be an issue. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers match up on him and we like Betts’ chances to score 100 again this week.
Jack Martin (Gold Coast) $5,400
Martin has kicked six goals and taken 15 marks over the first two weeks of the season. The Suns should beat the Blues up in Queensland today and young Martin will have every opportunity to kick a bag of goals again.
Ben Reid (Collingwood) $3,600
The two above him are the lower ownership and more risky plays but Reid is without doubt the play of the day at the forward position. He is still considerably underpriced and will likely play at half back as we know. 84 fantasy points in his first game back against the Tigers, he will improve from that further as he builds his fitness and gets back into the flow of things. His ceiling his x20+ production and he’ll be in a good chunk of lineups today.
Mids
Gary Ablett Jnr (Gold Coast) $6,400
Lock and load! If he’s not over 75% ownership today I’ll give it up for a week.
Kane Lambert (Richmond) $4,900
On a day with a stack of midfielders to sort through Lambert might be a hidden gem. He’s averaging x20 production for his price and is a pivotal part of this Richmond team who should have a close, high scoring game with the Crows today. He looks to be underpriced and should be around $6,000. Keep playing him until they catch up!
Matt Rosa (Gold Coast) $6,100
If you’ve got leftover cash today then you can consider upgrading Lambert to Matt Rosa who performed well in Round 1 for his new team the Gold Coast Suns. He was ‘too sore’ to travel to Perth last week which smells a bit fishy to us and given he doesnt have that trip under his belt should be well suited to a big game today. He is capable of pumping out x18-20 production and we have no issues playing both him and Ablett in the same team.
Defenders
Bachar Houli (Richmond) $7,200
Really hard to split Bachar and Rory Laird who are playing in the same game at Etihad stadium today. Both players are similar in what they do for their respective teams and we will be playing both in some lineups today. Bachar was back close to his best last week despite a few deer in the headlights moments that Tiger fans would love to forget. A very consistent option down back and if he can snag around 120 fantasy points again for x17 production we will be happy.
Rory Laird (Adelaide) $7,300
Crucial to Adelaide’s run and carry, quick ball movement and drive off half back is Rory Laird. The Crows dangerous forward line needs the ball to come in quick and they set up in a way that gets the ball into the hands of Laird across the backline. He takes lots of uncontested marks, uses the ball well and looks a safe choice down back today.
**Kade Simpson (Carlton) $7,000 is another player we liked at this position. The salary cap has aloud us to fit Laird in though so we went for the slight upgrade.
Rucks
Rory Lobb (GWS) $4,500
Very tricky day at Ruck. Nautanui and Sandilands play each other and both come with their own risks. Jacobs is consistent but it’s very hard to see him deliverying the value we need when he is priced at $8,000. Which leads us to Lobb. He will only pinch-hit in the ruck and spend some time forward and floating around. If he had kicked straight in the first two weeks he’d have scored a stack more fantasy points. He’s finding the footy and is a nice upside pick for today.
Tom Hickey (St Kilda ($4,400)
Gundry looks well and truly at his price and Hampson has failed to reach any great ceiling in two weeks as the number one Tigers ruck. That leads us with our second pick to young Hickey who has played well as the number one St Kilda ruckman and has shown already he can score 100+ fantasy points. Once again the day looks pretty uninspiring for Ruck choices so spread your exposure on the cheaper players and load up elsewhere.
